     People’s Organisations

The formation of People’s Organisations is of fundamental importance because all the programmes have to be carried on by Village Development Societies, i.e. by the villagers involved in the project. As regards People’s Organisations great achievements have been reached:

  • Phased out from 130 villages

  • 532 Village Development Societies (VDSs) formed

  • 456 VDS were registered

  • 67,015 families involved

  • 14,32,819 Rs. common fund raised by Village Development Societies

  • 130 VDS completely responsible for their own development (in phase out areas)

  • Established community centres in 81 villages and bus shelters in 35 villages

It is fundamental to remember that the common fund collected thorugh VDSs is used for the development of the respective community through the provision of services or infrastructures, such as the construction of drainage canals, cement roads, bridges, non-formal education centres for adults, for the electrification of villages, for the provision of fire accident assistance for affected people, etc.
