ASSIST gives great importance to changing the attitudes of the target population and to creating hope for their future through sensitisation. Deprived communities live with distress and despair and continue to survive with a feeling of resignation towards their and their children’s future. Hence, ASSIST takes it as a primary obligation to bring the necessary attitudinal change among these poor people to create a sense of confidence and courage and to develop a feeling of hope towards their lives showing that they can be improved and that their future is in their hands. |
| ASSIST makes this possible through |
- Mass and Group meetings – carried out among rural communities of villages to educate them on their rights, resources, constraints, problems and leadership factors;
- House Visits – which help to build good relation with the families and to motivate in attending Mass and Group meetings;
- Audio & Visual aids – simple and direct means of communicating crucial issues, are shown to different village communities;
- Mass Rallies – conducted on the main issues, like HIV/AIDS, Child Labour, Health needs, to educate the population;
- Cultural Performance – performed by a professional team on the same issues. Assist has achieved tremendous responses through its awakening programme called ‘Melukolupu’. Based on the field realities ASSIST’s professional performers play relevant shows in the villages.
