Maintaining good health is critical for any family trying to emerge from poverty, however this remains one of the most problematic and neglected areas within rural communities. Poor sanitary conditions, improper drainage systems, lack of safe water and unhygienic practices are visible in almost all the villages. Furthermore, geographical remoteness lends to limited access to information and services. Taking these various challenges into consideration, ASSIST works in the following areas to promote and improve community health:
• Creating awareness and promoting safe health practices through cultural performances, house visits, group meetings and trainings
• Organising mass health check-up camps in remote areas
• Enhancing basic facilities at Primary Health Centres
• Promoting the establishment of health offices at the village level
• Providing information, support and referrals to people living with HIV/AIDS, and advocating for prevention measures among high risk groups
